The Lichtenburg Kunsvereniging was founded by art lover and avid collector the late Ds Willem Annandale during the early seventies. When in 1975 the current Civic Centre were to be erected, the society petitioned for an art gallery which resulted in the beautiful gallery above the library named after it’s founder. The gallery houses a formidable collection of paintings, sculpture and pottery. This is also where the society is being challenged by lack of interest and dwindling numbers. Some loyal members have been dealing with personal hardships such as illness and loss. We are however positive and hopeful that the upcoming open exhibition for local artist on the 28th of November 2008, will result in new memberships. The mission of the society is still, as always has been, to welcome artists of all races and provide a window for their work and an opportunity to learn and grow.
